Call Niagara
Regional Housing for an application form at 905-935-7645 or Toll
Free 1-800-391-4644. Tell your story and they will help you
sort out the best way of proceeding. Be forewarned that the waiting
lists for some types of units are quite long. In some cases expect
years, not months.
Or go directly to the building of choice or call the administrator at the
building and ask for an application. Most administrators have limited office hours
so it is always best to call ahead. A waiting list is still likely as
there is a common waiting list for the whole Niagara Region.
The application form will ask for detailed financial information to
determine the qualification for subsidy.
Subsidies are based on all sources of income of all adult household
members, including potential income from interest on owned property. If you own a
property you must sell within 6 months of occupancy.
Sample subsidy calculation per month:
| Pension |
$1,400 |
House to sell valued at $110,000 with an imputed rate of
return of:
4% X $110,000 divided by 12 = |
$367 |
| Total Income |
$1.767 |
| 30% of Income = Rent |
$530 |
| There may be additional charges for utilities |
|
Note: Some non-profit projects do not have subsidies available.
