How do you answer this poem - its mine, well, at least the
last two lines are mine?
Fix'd like a plant on his peculiar spot,
To draw nutrition, propagate, and rot.
O how we found the habitual groove,
Is it now time to take roots and move?

I hope you are not offended. Most people smile, well
sort of, at the idea of rotting in place. (Its a nice little play on the trendy
phrase "aging in place.") If you don't smile..... sorry.
Moving is hard and it is understandable that even if you should move to make life easier you don't want to.
Well, you may not have to move.
In the end you may decide you can't move,
at least not now. Your neighbours may be too
important to leave. The house may have too many memories. Your family is near
and no other suitable housing is available. Apart from simple inertia (...bodies at
rest tend to stay at rest) the right thing to do may be to stay put.
This section of JustShelter deals with making it possible to stay home.
Eventually we all must leave home, but making the most of it while you are there
takes some planning and initiative. It won't happen well if you just live today as
you did yesterday. |
